When did we forget the joy
of sleeping on lightly soiled sheets? as a
child, remember? you would lie
down after a long day of play and
superficial child conflicts

onto those sheets, on your bed,
and there was just a touch of salt;
just enough for them to smell of you.

Today then, what are we afraid of?
every scent other than Tide, Shout, or Downy
is offensive it seems, and we fear of
catching a whiff of ourselves, or of
a loved one. Don’t get offended honey

when I chide you for trying to run
the washer with those. They are still
white, and we are not not clean. It’s
only natural, you know?
what we did.
